Job Title: General Labourer Position: Full-Time

Department: Maintenance/Labour

Reports To: Maintenance Labour Department Head

Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting the maintenance labour team and providing general property maintenance at Parkway Garden Centre. The General Labourer will assist the maintenance labour department head with property maintenance and general projects or tasks necessary to keep the greenhouse in a safe, working order.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Assist the maintenance labour department head in various labour projects 
2. Fabricate or repair tables, stands, sheds and various other facility structures
3. Assist in general upkeep, organization and maintenance of the greenhouse facility 
4. Assist other departments with labour intensive tasks or projects deemed necessary by the maintenance labour manager
5. Operate and provide regular upkeep and maintenance of power equipment 
6. Provide snow removal on property grounds during winter months as required
7. Assemble and disassemble shelves, stands and tables as required
8. Move stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, or delivery vehicles, by hand or using tractors, or other equipment
9. Dispose of compost totes, recycle and waste
10. Performing other related duties as assigned by the maintenance labour manager

Qualifications 

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Previous labour or maintenance experience preferred
• Ability to perform manual labour, including lifting heavy materials
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently without supervision
• Good organizational and problem solving skills
• Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
• Ability to operate a tractor, forklift or other machinery is an asset but not required
• Must have reliable transportation as we are not on a bus route

Work & Sensory Environment

• Required to stand for long periods of time during shift
• Regularly required to perform repetitive and/or precise hand/finger movements
• Required to lift, carry or handle heavy objects up to 50lbs at a time
• Tolerance to heat is required due to greenhouse setting
• Flexibility with schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays
• Be willing and able to work in different weather elements

Hours of work

• This position is full time and year round for the right candidate after the 3 month probationary period.
